A convenience store has opened on the corner of Hollis and Bishop streets in Halifax, but it aims to be something a little more. Flynn’s Dairy Bar & Convenience has all the things one would expect from a corner store but with a dairy bar.

“Our main plan was to set up a convenience store in the neighbourhood,” said owner Raees Shaikh in an interview. But, Shaikh and his sons decided to try to make it a little more than just a convenience store and that’s where the dairy bar called Fun & Shakes was added to the plan.

The dairy bar offers basic milkshakes and for those feeling a little more adventurous, they may add cereal, sundae topping and fruit as available or, take it to the next stage.

The next stage is the Massive Milkshakes with flavours including: Cookie Nutella, Royal Kit Kat, strawberry cheesecake and Unicorn. For example, in the Royal Kit Kat the rim of the cup is covered in chocolate and then Kit Kat fingers are put in place to form a Kit Kat rim.

“More massive crazy milkshakes are on the way,” Shaikh said.

The store opens at 7 a.m. and the dairy bar starts at 4 p.m. on weekdays after his two sons finish with school for the day and on the weekends. When the warmer weather arrives set in expect it to be open all day with both hard and soft ice-cream creations.
