After more than 25 years on Boland Road in Dartmouth, Avanti Pizza has closed., however it will be replaced in the near future by a third location of Randy’s Pizza.

The Exchange on Hollis closed on Monday, and then then got locked out on Tuesday by the landlord, but I hear there are changes in the leadership structure and they will reopen tomorrow.

in a reverse sort of comment, many people have been telling me that Papa Mario’s and La Piazza are opening on Dutch Village Road but it is just an advertisement for the other locations.

The new Courtyard by Marriott and Residence Inn by Marriott in Dartmouth Crossing are now taking bookings for July (may open sooner)

There are a few businesses that operate year round at Fisherman’s Cove in Eastern Passage but this is the time of year when the number of fair weather visitors increase and the seasonal operators are on the verge of opening.

This year will see a few changes in the little village of shops.

Longtime Eastern Passage restaurant Wharf Wraps had closed, but it has been replaced by Off the Hook Cook House. The new venue of course has the prerequisite fish and chips but the menu has more seafood options and other mains like ginger beef, pulled pork mac and cheese, and bangers and mashed. It also has a selection of sandwiches made on naan or creative items like wonton nachos.

Just a few buildings away another cook house is ready to open in May. Coastal Cook House will serve a small selection of takeout eats, but the first menu has chicken and waffles, tacos and burgers — vegetarian too — and a few more dishes.

Perennial favourite spot for ice cream and deep fried goodies What’s The Scoop is back this season and the sit down, Boondocks, with a view of the Halifax Harbour and the nearby islands is available year round.

Some of the other small shops also house a selection of artsy seaside kitsch, tourist shop goodies and tasty sweets. You can even find both in one, Fudgy Chicks inside of Seaside Casual Wear.

This new season will also see the opening of Hen and Goose maker of “Handmade collars and leashes for fashionable dogs!” The proprietors have been selling their artisan goods at craft shows and online for a few years now, but at the start of June they will be opening their own shop at Fisherman’s Cove as well.

For the active folks the nearby boardwalk is a popular walking trail and Kattuk Expeditions offers kayaking tours.

It looks like Ulta Beauty is coming to Canada, no locations announced (I would assume it would be Toronto market first)
