Coast to Coast; Gifts and Decor is closing up their nautical themed Dartmouth Crossing store. The decision to not continue at this time in metro comes at the end of their lease.

Owner Shavonne Wickens said “foot traffic has dropped over 60 per cent in the last two months.” Wickens is thankful for all the customers that follow on social media and see the store as a shopping destination, “but without foot traffic it is just not sustainable.”

The loss of foot traffic is due to the closure of two neighbouring chain stores. Bombay and & Co, which closed in July, and local chain Wicker Emporium. Both chains have filed for bankruptcy protection this year.

Wickens in a Facebook post said: “We have decided to refocus and grow our Yarmouth location and continue with seasonal locations for 2019.”

There is also a plan to launch an online store in 2019. In the long term, Wickens adds, “We are hoping to find our home here in HRM that values local independent family businesses and the (more than 20) artisans we showcase and support.”

Until the end of the year shoppers will find Coast to Coast in the Village Shops at 165 Hector Gate, Dartmouth Crossing.
