A Decade Past
I decided to look back a decade and see what was up in the Spring of 2016 and here are my notes.
? The Beer Garden controversary, Legendary Hospitality took over the Waterfront Beer Garden space first as the Stubborn Goat now simply as The BG – Waterfront.
Meanwhile Stillwell who pioneered the concept in that space needed a new home, and they ended up at Spring Garden and South Park. This in my opinion turned out to be a blessing as the new space meant it became more of a destination for locals versus tourists. Funny they had orginally looked at the space on the Commons on North Park but were met with local resistance. Ironically it is Good Robot’s Beer Garden now.
The new Stillwell space also meant the arrival of the beloved Dairy Bar.
? It was also an interesting time for liquor, the NSLC opened their signature The Port on Clyde Street, meaning the end of the iconic Clyde Street NSLC (RIP Pirate) though that location became the only NSLC Cannabis exclusive shop.
At the airport, Liquid Assets arrived on the departures level. A brilliant idea and location as a spot where visitors can buy a souvenir of sorts from the store that only stocks NS product. Also a good place to grab a gift for us to bring to a host. I have been to a lot of airports and this too me is one of the best shops anywhere to highlight local product.
? In eats, it was our introduction to Dilly Dally, Eliot & Vine, Tawa Grill, Highwayman and Verano. All have been great addtions to our city.
? DSW opened in Bayers Lake and the first Chatime opened on Brenton. The Terrace at Halifax Shopping Centre opened marking the return and rebuild of the food court. ( I miss the old Venus upstairs)
? In the category of arrived but now different. The Rustic Crust rolled their pizza truck to the Bedford Waterfront, but they are now brick and mortar in Tantallon. Timber Lounge Axe Throwing opened on Agricola, and are now Downtown Dartmouth. While the The Trainyard opened, they have since moved down the street and changed hands, but there is no other store that quite captures the creative essence of Dartmouth.
? Some legends we lost that some still have not come to terms with are
Island Greek, Garden View and House of Mei Mei
