a Sneak Peek at Cantina Mexicana
I got an invite to Halifax’s newest Mexican resto for a sneak peek, cantinamexicana.ca which opens this weekend. The restaurant is bright with a fun mural and design. Designed for takeout but there are ~16 stools at which you can sit down and eat.
The food is pretty spectacular, a choice of pork, chicken, beef, fish or veggie.
I tried a Cochanita Pipl (pork) burrito with beans and rice with the Salsa Verde it was pretty good, the flour tortilla was very soft and mailable and the rookie behind the counter wrapped it tight and quick with the skills of seasoned pro.
I also tried 2 tacos a Barbacoa (beef) with rice and beans and the fantastic Xnipec salsa, the Pollo (chicken) with grilled onions & peppers and the pico de gallo. They were both tasty but if Cantina Mexicana comes up short, it’s on the corn tortillas. They were flat, too dry and crumbled easily.
Overall a great experience and a great addition to the area. I suspect they will see some traffic from Citadel High when it catches on. The dishes, Burrito, 3 Tacos, Salad bowl or Quesadilla are all $9.50 taxes in.
I’ll definitely be back and hopefully they will have the fish available to try.
I also suspect they will be in the running for Best Burrito.1551 South Park StreetHalifax, NSHours of OperationMonday – Friday11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.Saturday and SundayNoon – 6:00 p.m.info@cantinamexicana.caSource: http://halifax.retales.ca/a-sneak-peak-at-cantina-mexicana/
