EDIT: I stand corrected HRM ends roughly at Fox Point Rd so everything after the Trellis is actually in Lunenburg County
Hubbards on the edge of HRM has quite a few cottages and is close to many great beaches and a great place to go for a drive or a close spot to go stay overnight
A bizarre development home of Hubbards Landing Steak & Seafood Restaurant with Conveience store, across the parking lot i s some services including Touch of Class Hairstyling but the weird prt is right beside is equally designed buildings that are residential duplexes right in the parking lot
A little further down the road is Ida’s tourist trap of trinkets and sea glass but a popular stop for the Highway 3 traveler
Shore Club still rocking out every summer Saturday night since 1946, a night out at the Shore Club is a great experience I haven’t done it in 15 years but just writing this makes me want to go again. When there isn’t a late night dance there is Lobsters Suppers Thu-Sun located right at Hubbards Beach
Continuing on to the Trellis cafe with yummy food …. and live folksy music …., next door is for the love of Daisy, holistic Pet Foods and accesories, another hwy 3 Gift Shoppe is Michael and Tony’s and the ubiquitous Hwy 3 antique shop Mother Hubbards Cupboard
the next stop on the highway is the Hubbards Barn & Community Park home of the Hubbards Farmers Market which operates May to October and has Food and crafts to keep you content, When the Barn isn’t hosting the market it can be rented out and they even show movies in the summer
Then we have the Rural strip mall, up front Hubbards Hair design and the Home Hardware the centre piece of small town Canada in the back mall you have Scotiabank, and Save Easy and an NSLC which establishes a small town in NS as fancy.
There is also the 4 way stop pizzeria and a V&S that has things! I mean it has things what more can you need, and rounding it off is Whims an ice cream/used paperback store. Across the street is a giant new PharamaSave which seems to be quite common across
populated Rural NS.
go another 100 feet and you are out of the HRM and into Lunenburg County, so depending how you look at it, the Pharmasave is the first or last place you can spend money in the HRM
Looking For Candidates for the Ugliest Street in HRM
you know that street that you drive down that you think is gross
or that street you just won’t walk down because it hurts your sense aesthetic
that’s what I am looking for if you have additional send them to me at email@example.com, leave comments below or tweet/facebook at me HalifaxRetales
Also looking for some defence of the streets listed
Some Early candidates
- Windmill Rd
- Wyse Rd
- Pinehill Dr (dartmouth)
- Victoria rd from School St North
- Gaston Rd. and all it’s offshoots
- Beaver Crescent
- Gottingen Almon to Young
- Agricola between North and Young
- Herring Cove especially between Old Sambro and McIntosh
- Maynard St
- Gottingen between Cogswell and Cunard
- Bilby St
- Kempt Rd
- Young (Robie to Windsor)
- Clifton North of North St
- Barrington from Cogswell north
- Upper Water from Historic Properties North
- Bay Rd. in Beechville
- Bayers Lake
Bedford/Sackville/HWY 3 Burbs/Fall River
These are what people have suggested to me I am not necessarily saying these streets are ugly to all in fact I am sure most streets can and will be defended.
some late addons:
Mitchell St in South End Halifax
Albermarle St behind Scotia Sq.
McIntosh St in Spryfield so sketchy that the Google Car didn’t even drive down it
I had to grab something at Costco I go in and I see this
and I’m like Hell No!
Halloween already it’s only August 2nd Halloween is nearly 3 months away
and then I go by the next aisle and I am like No F’in way you can’t be serious this is ludicrous!
Christmas!Wreaths! Wrapping Paper!
and then on the way out the Store!
They may still have the cheapest lunch in town with the $1.50 Coke and Dog
but the Chicken Fingers and Fries have been replaced by a Turkey and Provolone Sandwich
